Tumbler Woes…
Earlier this year I purchased another double tumbler from Harbor Freight made by Chicago Electric because my other one that was a few years old was on its last legs. The old tumbler died over the summer when a plastic piece fell off one of the rotary wheels that kept the belt in place. I thought it was just a fluke and continued to use my new tumbler. I noticed that every week I had to replace the belt that turns the two rotary wheels (which in turn move the rods so the barrels roll). I was getting down to my last replacement belt, and the same thing happened with my new tumbler where this plastic piece just broke off the smaller rotary wheel and no longer can hold the belt in place. I tried to rig the belt on the bare metal, and it now turns but so slow its almost just a waste of time. I broke down and ordered a new commerical tumbler which is what I should have done in the beginning of the summer. Now I am waiting for the new tumbler to arrive and hoping I can finish the stones I have been trying to polish all summer long so I can wrap a few pieces in time for the holidays.
